David,

A lovely insightful piece. It speaks well of the ambivalence of both longing for something else (past or future) and not wanting to lose what one has. The grass is greener versus a bird in the hand.

Love to you.

I live in the far west Village in NYC. The only other place I feel entirely at home is in Marfa, visiting Martha Hughes. I loved your commentary and want you to know that I share your feeling of being home and comfortable anytime I and my wonderful husband Charlie visit your beautiful town. I'm sorry that sometimes your solitary situation tips into loneliness. Please know that that sensation can occur wherever one finds oneself; in the large, melting pot metropolis I call home or on the high desert. Your community is a salve and a solace to those you may not have yet met. Enjoy every day and above all, keep creating. Fondly, Lisa

David, I enjoyed reading your entry and I've been thinking of it for a long time..
one of the hardest things being an artist is finding this focus and concentration.
Nobody telling is you, 'hurry up' or you have to do this or that', it is just you. The artist is the engine. Sometimes i feel like a monk, repeating the same thing, in seclusion. There are some rituals, you mentioned, cleaning up, washing dishes, walking the dog, sweeping the floor ..
Thanks David,
best Cecilia.
